Welcome to Texas Frightmare Weekend
I missed last year's Frightmare Weekend. Or maybe that was something else. I'm thinking I could drive over on Sunday, it's just $12 admission and It's be fun. I'll ask Micheal and Josh if they'd like to go.
No word on how Ushicon went last weekend. What with Mundee in the hospital it seemed pointless to go to Austin. We need more excuses to go to Austin, I guess.
Which is how it always is.
I was thinking about HAuNTcon.com which is more for the folks who run haunted attractions. But Lloyd Kaufman will be at Frightmare Weekend! Too cool...

VHS and a DVD 12:44 PM
Two more tapes of THE NEW ADVENTURES OF SPEED RACER showed up at the office. Leaving only one tape left for me to complete the set. PANDA AND THE MAGIC SERPENT also showed up and looks very interesting. I thought my copy of THE ANIMATION SHOW had arrived, but it turned out to be JIM HENSON'S THE STORYTELLER series. I had picked up a STORYTELLER tape a couple weeks ago and remembered how nice they were. A very RETURN TO OZ feel to them. And the DVD was pretty cheap.
That reminds me. I need to pick up a copy of RETURN sometime.
Used VHS is coming down more and more. Used VHS at Halfprice is $3.95 which sets the bar for Movie Warehouse and the other used video stores. $.99 for the clearance tapes but there are $.50 tapes there if you look for them. Most used tapes don't go quite that low. But prices are on a decline with the DVD boom. Hell, I could start collecting Laserdiscs if I could only find an LD player. I see this as a good thing for tape collecting. Hopefully the tape trade won't get too out of hand on eBay and the like. But it makes collecting fodder for HELL easy.

Befitting Ms. Fitz 12:30 PM
Rhino released Seasons 1 and 2 of JEM and the Holograms on DVD awhile back. Unfortunatly it's sold out. You can bid on bootleg DVDs on eBay for $100 plus. Luckily I was able to rent it from NetFlix. Except the first disc in the series was unavailable. Broken and gone, with no replacement in sight.
Now I'm looking for copies of BARBIE AND THE ROCKERS out there. From what I can tell, BATR was origianlly called Barbie and The Sensations. I'm guessing that the real Sensations didn't like that. But I really want to see the show again. I remember liking it more then JEM, and I don't remember the details.

Ms Fitz 2:39 PM
Watched a bit from the out of print Jem and the Holograms Seasons 1 & 2 last night. A few thoughts came to mind.
The design is ugly. No, really. The look of the show is God awful. And the color scheme is just plain bad. Bad, not just ugly but bad.
The music is an enigma. But then that could be said about the characters that inhabit the show...

asg to x3d converter 10:23 AM
asg to x3d converter: "Asg2x3d converts SmoothTeddy models into the popular file formats X3D and/or VRML.
Both X3D and VRML are standards for 3D graphics on the web.
This means you can now view and share your favorite SmoothTeddy models using a web browser!
You can also further modify or integrate your models into even bigger 3D worlds,
since many professional 3D CAD applications (e.g. 3D Studio Max) can import VRML."
This is exactly what I was looking for!

An open letter from the EFF 8:43 AM
As my Representative, I urge you to investigate and oppose the
Analog Content Protection Act, Broadcast Flag Authorization Act and HD Radio Content Protection Act, proposed by the RIAA and MPAA to Congress at the House Judiciary Committee hearing on Content Protection in the Digital Age, on Thursday, November 3rd, 2005.
Innovation depends on the ability to creatively add functionality to existing systems. If digital television and radio were to be locked down, it would limit my ability to use digital signals in the same ways I currently listen to, watch and use radio and television. If the RIAA and MPAA were to have their way, every future digital radio in every car and home would be limited to the uses that Hollywood executives currently imagine they could accept. Every digital television would be locked down by fixed rules, so that open source developers and American innovators could not adapt or improve upon them. And every audiovisual device - including DVD recorders, camcorders, VHS VCRs with digital outputs - would be encumbered with red tape and constant upgrading.
None of these restrictions will impede or punish digital piracy; they will merely impede and punish innocent American television, radio and computer owners. Indeed, when consumers realize they can do even less with their digital media than they could do with analog equivalents, it would be no surprise if they chose to seek out freely available content with no such restrictions.
Each of these proposals is an incredible and far-reaching attempt by an industry to control and limit consumer choice, to constrict and cripple future audio and video technology, and to eliminate the fair use rights of American citizens.
Please oppose these acts on my behalf. Thank you.

A long soaking rain 12:54 PM
Starting late saturday night as I was going home from Josh and Michael's, there were flashes of lighting in the clouds. By the time I was sitting down at the Avertec it was rumbling. Then it was coming down hard. It lasted all night and most of Sunday. We really needed it.
By then I'd already watched HEINO DIE SHOW and been horrified by the return of the dancing Heinos. We watched part of the disc at Bruce and Mundee's friday night. Mundee had Josh and Michael and Chris and Clarine over for supper and even Ed showed up after he came back from work. It was a good time and good food, but I was starting to nod off around mid-night. The day and the wine were catching up with me...

Video funhouse 9:40 AM
The cheapdisposable loudblog seems to be working now. I'm not sure what changed, but it works fine now. Now to try an MP3 or two.
Meanwhile the mypodcasts loudblog ain't working, for the second day in a row. If I could figure out how to install loudblog to the Pow Web site I would. Run it all from animehell.org instead of by proxy. But that's ok. It's almost time to renew the domains again. And there'll be more changes as time goes by.

Lack of technical experiance 12:37 PM
Installed loudblog on cheapdisposable, it seemed to work, but I can't get the videos to playback. I'm trying mp3s next. If that doesn't work I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong. Gotta figure it out...

Forum Phun 12:36 PM
Troubles with the old HELLforum made it time for a whole new HELLforum. I'd set up a Yabbers PHPbb back in November but didn't do anything with it. Most folk like the PHPbb forums, so it was time to set it up and link to it.
I thought we had a forum with Pow Web hosting, but it turned out that we didn't. So the Yabbers board was the obvious solution. Now I need to set up a domain to direct to it. Truth is we coulda used the cheapdisposable.com PHPbb that nobody's using, but I didn't want to risk losing that hosting like we did the AnimeHELL account.
I should look into that page and see what I can do with it....

A season in HELL 11:36 AM
I've done alot of thinking about OtakuHELL. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the 4 or so shows a year I've worked my way up to. But as much fun as I have doing HELL at anime cons I'd like to do the show more often and outside of the con circit.
So I thought I'd start with UTA. If I can contact somebody in the UTA anime club who'd be willing to help out I'd like to do a show at UTA. It's close and it'd be an easy set up, I think.
I tell this to Michael and Josh and Chis and Clarine and Clarine suggests that I lookin into getting HELL booked at the Ridgelea in Fort Worth.
I mention this to Bruce and he suggests doing HELL at Cooper Coffee, a open format coffee house just down Cooper from us.
So now I have more venues to look into. Now I'm excited about doing HELL shows, again...

Hertz still hasn't charged the Cheap Disposable Entertainment credit card. I'm getting worried that they are tacking on extra charges. Craptastic.

Having no fun encoding Tourist Omar for LSanto's Video Hell at Arisia Con this saturday. I thought I could just burn it to DVD-Video but Nero and Ulead don't like that. So, it's off to the RenderFARM...

Waiting for the Mazda 3 11:30 AM
With Bruce at Ohayocon with Doug it's been a weird weekend. Checking in on Mundee and Yuki, making sure everthings ok. We went to Cafe Du France for brunch with Michael and Josh on saturday. And then we had supper at Josh's. Michael was trying out a new dish and we were his test group. With Mundee's help it was great.
Today we're waiting for Bruce and Doug to get home. They left late last night so we're hoping they're here before dark. If they can get back before 5 we wouldn't have to pay for an extra day of rental...

"Here Comes Your Man"
outside there's a box car waiting
outside the family stew
out by the fire breathing
outside we wait 'til face turns blue
i know the nervous walking
i know the dirty beard hangs
out by the box car waiting
take me away to nowhere plains
there is a wait so long
here comes your man
big shake on the box car moving
big shake to the land that's falling down
is a wind makes a palm stop blowing
a big, big stone fall and break my crown
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man
there is a wait so long
you'll never wait so long
here comes your man

In the wash 12:15 PM
Another day of doing laundry. I didn't realise that it'd backed up as much as it did. Oh yeah, I need more pastic hangers, too. Gotta get to BigLots or something like that, Target if Lots is too over run with the typical scene.
Ah, I really need to figure out that webcomix thing, too.
I just need to get to work.
