Ultraman Tiga on Region One

I finally got the final volume of ULTRAMAN TIGA and I've gotta say I'm impressed. 4KIDS did a great job packaging this series. I know I've said this before, but at 13 episodes over two disks per volume you really get your money's worth. On the downside, it's in the original Japanese with subtitles. Don't get me wrong, the translations are very good and the subs are quite readable, but this is a kid's show. And you'd probablly get more kids to watch it in the english dubbed broadcast form.

Of course, KIKAIDA is being broadcast in Hawaii and California in it's original Japanese with English subs and it's doing quite well.

In comparison with the KIKAIDA DVDs the ULRAMAN TIGA extras are disappointing. They aren't as interesting or fun or well, worthwhile. And then there are all the promos for The FOX BOX and all the 4KIDS shows which really don't have anything in common with ULTRAMAN TIGA except by virtue of being licensed by 4KIDS. Seriously, I'm not interested in buying a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVD, thanks.

With any luck ULTRAMAN TIGA will find an audience. And it deserves an audience who'll discover it in the bargain bin and be charmed by it's monsters and strange alien hero. And spend the summer nights running through the yard pretending to be members of G.U.T.S. protecting the Earth.
