Finally had an evening with the power on to work on the animation project. Moho doesn't seem to like the tablet PC, so I set up on Renderfarm. And surprise, it worked quite well. Now I just need to finish the actual drawings and render the whole thing out. Piece of cake.
Then I need to lean on Bruce for the Heino Cartoon.
Fun stuff.

Powerless 8:06 AM
I had a sneaking suspicion that something was wrong at the house, but it wasn't until I got home that I found the power was out, AGAIN.
So I called Ed to let him know and then I walked into the backyard and those cables were still there. Ed calls the power company and they say they'll have it fixed around 6pm. I decide to go and buy a torch instead of cursing the darkness. 6pm comes and goes and no power. So I get Ed and head over to Discount Electronics to kill some time, still no power. I finally end up at Josh and Michael's and we watch THE PUPPETOON MOVIE, which has lots of nightmare fuel.
I get tired and decided to just go home and go to bed. And just as I get there the power comes back on. AND IT STAYED ON ALL NIGHT!

Birthday swag! 12:49 PM
Got HANZO THE RAZOR boxset from Josh and THE VAL LEWTON HORROR COLLECTION from Michael for my birthday. Thanks guys! Party at Edelweiss this saturday!
And the cool part was that Josh and Michael also took me out to dinner at Habachi 97 with Chris and Keith. I had a great time, too.
The big blow 8:59 AM
The wind knocked down a couple of phonelines or some sort of cable in to the back yard last night. There was a loud series of pops and surges that took out both of my towers and reset the reciever. I thought I'd lost my monitor and the KMV. Then about ten minutes later we lost all power. But only on our side of the street.
Couldn't sleep very well, I was worried I wouldn't wake up in time to go into work. Around 4:30 the power came back, I went and turned off the tv and turned the surgebars back on. Everything rebooted this morning, so I'm hoping that it's ok. We'll see tonight...

Frankie and Johnny 12:09 PM
Watched HOOTANANNY HOOT on TCM and now I can't get FRANKIE AND JOHNNY outta my head:
Frankie And Johnny
Performed by Johnny Cash
Frankie and Johnny were sweethearts
Lordy how they did love
They swore to be true to each other
As true as the stars above
He was her man
He wouldn't do her wrong
Frankie went down to the corner
Just to get a bucket of beer
She said Mr. bartender
Has my lovin' Johnny been here?
He's my man, he wouldn't do me wrong
I ain't gonna tell you no story
I ain't gonna tell you no lie
Johnny left here 'bout an hour ago
With a gal named Nellie Bly
If he's your man, he's doin' you wrong
Frankie looked over the transom
And much to her surprise
There on a cot sat Johnny
Making love to Nellie Bly
She said, "He's my man
But he's doin' me wrong"
Frankie pulled back her komono
Pulled out her old .44
Root-a-toot-toot that gal did shoot
Right through that hardwood door
She shot her man
Because he was doin' her wrong
Roll out your rubber tired buggy
Roll out your rubber tired hack
She's taking her man to the graveyard
But she ain't gonna' bring him back
She shot her man
Because he was doin' her wrong
This story has no moral
This story has no end
This story goes to show
That you can't put your trust in men
She shot her man
Because he was doin' her wrong

Birthday Countdown 8:56 AM
That's right, it's this Friday. Don't forget.
Broadband was installed, but Ed's old router won't let me leech through more then one port. Crap on a stick. Maybe I'll get my own router or maybe I'll try BitComet or something that isn't what I'm using right now.
I still need to get to Pearl Vision...
Also need to pick up another cat5 for the LeechBOX.
Not sure when we'll be going to Edelweiss for my birthday party, but Mundee's got December 17th marked for the annual Bruce and Mundee Christmas bash. No theme picked yet, but you can be sure it'll be a good time. And don't forget Ed's burnt on the bottom stew!

Comcast called about the install yesterday. So, tonight, after work it'll happen.
The plan is to put the cable modem in my room, right now. That's what I want, anyway. Then I'll run the ethernet out to Ed's computer. Possibly through the closets.

Mexican Coke and Dublin Dr. Pepper... 11:53 AM
Believe it or not, this is a big deal around here:

Is Mexican Coke the real thing?

Mexican Coke fans say cane sugar gives it a sweeter flavor than the corn syrup in the U.S. version.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – There's at least one place where the iconic caramel-colored fizz of American Coca-Cola doesn't reign supreme, and it's deep in the heart of Coke country.
At Las Tarascas Latino Supermarket, 30 miles from the soft drink giant's world headquarters in Atlanta, store manager Eric Carvallo adjusts prized bottles of Mexican Coke displayed at the front of the store.
He then points over his shoulder to a noticeably smaller display of American Cokes tucked in the corner.
Carvallo says his store goes through 10 to 15 cases of Mexican Coke a week – his entire stock – while he's barely able to push five cases of the domestic version.
"Sometimes I have it left over," he said of the domestic Coke he orders. "Sometimes a case, case and a half. So it's a lot of difference."
Taste is the main reason why his discriminating shoppers buy Mexican Coke – they say the cane sugar sweetener used in Mexican Coke has a sweeter, cleaner flavor than the high-fructose corn syrup in the American version. Many are willing to pay $1.10 per 12-ounce bottle for the imports, even with cans of American Coke sitting nearby for 49 cents each.
"You drink it and taste it – it's something you tasted all your life," said Carvallo, referring to the many immigrants who prefer Mexican Coke.
While the flavor of Mexican Coke provides a taste of nostalgia for immigrants hundreds of miles from home, its retro green-tinted contour glass bottles have also caught on among some baby boomers, who can recall a time when their cola was made with sugar – before rising costs drove U.S. bottlers to switch to corn syrup in the 1980s.
With a niche market for Mexican Coke taking root in the United States, The Coca-Cola Co. and its bottlers are quietly looking to block its passage across the border.
One reason the company wants to lower the profile of the drink in the United States is that bottlers here don't profit from sales of the import, which are produced by independent Mexican bottlers. Mexican Coke, brought in by third-party distributors and retailers, infringes on franchise territory rights of the U.S. plants.
"We believe that those territory rights belong to the rightful bottlers," said Coke spokesman Mart Martin.
The Coca-Cola bottled in Tijuana is made with sugar, and limited quantities of it show up north of the border from time to time at small neighborhood grocery stores, said Bob Phillips, spokesman for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Southern California.
"It happens infrequently and the incidents are so small that it has never been a problem for us," Phillips said.
John Craven, editor of BevNet.com, an online beverage industry newsletter based in Cambridge, Mass., suggested Coke might want to quell potential demand for a formula that would cost more to produce.
"Coke fears consumers demanding cane sugar but not willing to pay extra costs for it, and Coke really can't afford major material increases," Craven said.
Martin declined to specify what action the company has taken to curb the gray market trade of Mexican Coke, saying only that "our bottlers discourage that practice."
Discouraging the imports may be all they can do, since Mexican bottlers legally produce the drink and third-party distributors and retailers aren't bound by contracts between Coke and its U.S. bottlers.
"It's very tricky for them to enforce," Craven said. "It's not a product that they can get Customs to stop at the border since it's not a counterfeit."
Coca-Cola said it has been unable to track exactly how much Mexican Coke is sold in the United States, although some industry observers say the company's concerns are unwarranted since sales likely pale in comparison to its American counterpart.
"If there's a tiny amount of Coke from Mexico sold in the U.S., it's a pin drop compared to the ocean of American Coke sold by the U.S. bottlers," said John Sicher, editor of the New York-based industry publication Beverage Digest.
Craven agreed, but noted the company's resistance to this budding niche market.
"Consumers are starting to wise up to a lot of these smaller brands that are out there, these regionally premium sodas," he said.
At least one American bottling plant has found success catering to soda gourmets who prefer cane sugar sweeteners.
The Dublin Dr Pepper bottling plant in Texas has been producing Dr Pepper using the original cane sugar recipe for 114 years as the soft drink's first franchise bottler.
The bottler's creative director, Jeff Pendleton, said its allegiance to the original recipe while selling the drinks at regular Dr Pepper prices has been less profitable for the small, family-owned operation but has earned it a strong following.
"Profit is a factor, but it's not the only factor," Pendleton said. "Sticking with quality has been beneficial to us. The idea to sell more for a lower price and use cheaper ingredients, that's what everybody else does."
Some U.S. Coca-Cola bottlers even produce cane sugar Coke each year for Passover, since many Jewish people won't eat or drink corn products during the holiday. The company says it has no immediate plans to start producing it for a wider market.
Coca-Cola downplays the appeal of the cane sugar version, insisting that "there's not a perceivable taste difference between Mexican Coke and Coke bottled in the U.S.," Martin said.
But fans of the import claim there's a world of a difference.
"It's got a much different, cleaner taste," Craven said. "You don't have that syrupy coat in your mouth after you drink it."
Rob Boyce, 28, of Dunwoody, Ga., discovered the drink while living for a time in Yuma, Ariz., where he would drive about 10 minutes across the border to the town of Los Algodones each week to replenish his Mexican Coke supplies.
"It was the fad," he said. "If someone was going to Mexico, pick up the Coke!"
Now back in Georgia, Boyce savors the few Mexican Cokes that he comes across, sipping carefully rather than guzzling what he considers a treat. The born-and-raised Coke fanatic still drinks the American version, but "if I could get the real stuff, I would."

Renderfarming 9:30 AM
Got the computers back up and running. Took a bit longer then I thought, and somehow it took less outlets, too. But, both Renderfarm and Leechbox are hooked up to the KVM and I've daisychain all the external harddrives and whatnot. Now all I need is Comcast to hook up the broadband and I'll be all set....

Summer in November 3:45 PM
Still very hot outside...
A large part of the weekend was spent reorganizing and building the cat ramp up to the loft for Nub. I stacked up the milkcrates like Legos and found the whole thing caving in under it's own weight. So, I simply braced everything by stacking boxes in front of the milkcrate shelves. I guess I need to go back to IKEA for a better shelving solution.

Broadbanded 9:06 AM
The cable modem showed up wednesday, so I called Comcast yesterday and ordered the install. BUT, they can't do it until the 17th, a full week away. Obviously I shoulda ordered the install the same day I ordered the cable modem. Live and learn...
On the up side, I got my futon into the loft thanks to Michael and Josh's help and Nub loved it. Cats, go figure.

TROMSO! 11:44 AM
Tuesday after work I got Bruce to take me to IKEA in Frisco and I bought the loft. Yeah, it set me back $300. But I GOT THE LOFT.
Wednesday evening was spent putting the monkey bars together. Took me four or more hours of swearing and sweating but in the end I got it up. But I didn't sleep in it. I slept underneith it, cuddled up with Nub. Tonight I gotta figure out a ramp or something for Nub to climb up into the loft. I'm thinking this could take some time. Wish me luck...
Finally got my workstation back. Turns out it was flaking over the mouse and keyboard. One new keyboard and mouse later and everything works fine. WTF?
I'm digging this Logitech combo, I'm thinking of getting one for the dancave...

Technological Failure 12:37 PM
I'm currently working without my workstation. It locked up yesterday and then refused to reboot. Add to this that we're still waiting for the cable modem essential for accessing broadband and I'm finding myself unable to even check my e-mail. Computers suxxor.
Oh, yeah. By the way, did I mention that my birthday's coming up? And after that is Christmas? So, looking for ideas on what to buy me? Try my Amazon Wishlist.

Broadband Cable 11:20 AM
Ordered Comcast's Broadband deal. $19.95 a month for the first six months and I end up filling out rebate forms for a cable modem and $100 back after the first month. Not that it really matters. We've been without DSL at the Edstead for about a month, and even after Ed pays the DSL bill we'd have to wait something like 2 weeks for the batards to turn it back on. So, I figure this is simpler. I'll be the one paying for internet provision and that'll make sure I've got internet hookup.
Unfortunatly I gotta wait on the arrival of the cable modem before I can schedule the install.
Hurry up and wait.

Day of the Dead 1:01 PM
And that means it's NOVEMBER. And November means MY BIRTHDAY!
That's right, the day is November 25th, which is the day RIGHT AFTER THANKSGIVING. So while you're out on the biggest shopping day of the year you may wanna remember me. I usually don't make a big deal about my birthday, heck I usually forget it. But I figure I'll be a complete jerkweed this year and see what happens.
So look for my wishlist of gimme gimme coming up in the days and weeks to follow. And have a good laff about it with me.

Post Halloween rundown 8:29 AM
Scary stuff. Well, maybe not that scary. Killed some time after work picking through the VHS at Half Price. Then went to Nizza Pizza with Josh and Michael. Which reminds me, Josh said he found a copy of SSX on ebay. Gotta check that out.
We ended up watching NIGHT OF THE HUNTER and passing out candy to the Tricker Treaters, and that's what happened on Halloween night...
