flier does nothing 11:01 AM
Spent all of Friday trying to figure out a flier for OhayoCon. Here it is Monday and I'm still trying to figure out a flier for OhayoCon. I'm failing so hard right now.

HELL production 2010 8:22 AM
Working on the show for Ohio. Since I can't go to Ohio and neither can Katie I decided that It'd be neat if I could video tape Katie host segments and edit them into the show. I'd never done anything like that before, so I made lots and lots of mistakes. But I expected that.
The first thing I realized was that my cheap digital video camera wasn't really up to the job. I'd decided to do a few tests before Mila and Katie showed up to see how well the Polaroid did. I was shooting in the living room with two lights, just some Ikea lamps with fluorescent bulbs in them, and it was really disappointing. If I want to keep doing this sort of thing I'm gonna have to invest in a real video camera and some real lights. Cost of a good camera? $1,000. Lights? $100 a piece with stands. But the first problem I needed to address was the video camera's mic. It sucked. But I knew that going in.
To solve the audio problem I got my M-audio mic and used the Asus and Audacity to record with the intention to synch the track to the video later. And it worked pretty well. The audio was much clearer and cleaner then what the Polaroid picked up.
Well, I was stuck with the camera I had. So, I'd just have to work with what I got. And I didn't know where my old tripod was, so I ended up making a stack of old manga and setting the camera on top of that. Cheap, makeshift, that was going to be the mark of this production.

wedding hells are ringing 8:48 AM
I google "anime+hell" looking to see where it's turning up in the wild interwebs all the time. Usually Google tells me that some 13 year old has made another music video confusing Anime HELL with AMV HELL, or another 13 year old set up a forum page for their internet social circle to post their music videos that still have nothing to do with Anime HELL.
But sometimes Google brings me things that surprise me. This morning it brought this to me:
http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/01/13/a-viable-vision/
Now, we've had marriage proposals at Anime HELL. But this? A wedding theme based on Anime HELL? I'm not even sure if it's possible. But the thought makes me smile and melts my heart just a bit.
I wonder if we'll get an invite?
Not directly related to the link, I did this animation in reply to a marriage proposal at Central Hellfest.

Dark of the Sun (1968) 8:57 AM
http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=3109
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062863/
Dark of the Sun is described as, "A mercenary band fights to get refugees and a fortune in diamonds out of the Congo." That's an understatement.
What the movie is really about is testosterone.
I missed the opening. When I turned the channel Rod Taylor had just saved Yvette Mimieux. And she was pissed. Not really sure what's going on at this point. Rod Taylor looks military. Then Jim Brown shows up and he's got a different military uniform. All this is taking place inside an old steam powered train in the jungle. I'm only half paying attention at this point.
Jim Brown comes out of the jungle with two kids under his arms, and the kids are screaming in whatever language they speak in that part of the Congo. Jim is laughing. Rod asks why. Jim says they're asking not to be eaten. It's a good, well written scene. Rod asks the kids about the area through Jim and I find out that they're deep in Indian territory, so to speak. Not only does this bring me up to speed on the plot but it reveals Rod and Jim's relationship. Rod is a mercenary, Jim is the local Military. In western lingo Jim is the Sheriff and Rod is the gun for hire.
After talking to the kids Jim and Rod turn the kids loose and head back to the train. Suddenly there's gunfire. Jim and Rod head back to the clearing where the kids were. They're dead. They've been shot by a merc named Henlein who's dubbed with Paul Frees' german voice. Henlein says he had to shoot them to stop them from going back and reporting to the enemy camp. There's a really really tense moment between Rod, Jim and Henlein. Epic glaring macho stuff. Then Jim picks up the bodies of the children and carries them into the jungle.
Okay movie, you've got my attention.
I don't wanna give it away, but this is a really good movie. And it's a damn shame it's not out on DVD. Jim Brown and Rod Taylor have some really good scenes together. And the machismo goes to insane levels in the final reel. Damn but I wish I'd taped that.

IndieGames.com - The Weblog - Opinion: Indie Game Design Do-s and Don't-s: A Manifesto: "22. Don't worry about being poor.
Indie game designers are starving artists. Be frugal and humble. Again, your goal shouldn't be financial gain first and foremost, If it is, you will most likely fail. A profitable indie game designer is a rare thing. If you value money over 'a job well done' then this isn't the field for you."
