Last Calavera of the month 6:00 AM
It seems my body is trying really hard to expel the crud I've been nursing for the last week. I gotta admit, I'm certainly feeling better then I did yesterday. I hope I'm rid of this crud tomorrow, or the next day at the latest. Nothing like allergies to mess up a day.
Can I make a November 15th deadline for SXSW film submission?
ON THE LIST: the cartoon PSA.

Monday's Magical Pill Pals 6:00 AM
I figured since I'd already done the audio recording for the Multipurpose Anime Convention Opening I may as well go ahead and animate it. I think it'll take longer to edit together and sync the audio then it will to actually animate. And I also want to do the MPP HELL bumpers. Which I tried to animate in no less then two other attempts with both MOHO and Pencil. You'd think I'd learn and just give up already. Nope. I'm just not that smart. And I tried to do the HELL bumpers set up without recording the audio. So I need to record that. And maybe even sketch it out so I've got a finished plan to follow. I may never figure out some of the more complex toonboom tools but I can do basic animation with the damn thing, and that's all that matters to me right now.

Grabby 6:00 AM
Hmmm. It occurred to me that I could use the Redude for OtakuHELL. Use him and the Pill Pals for some eye catch animations.

There's a movie in there somewhere 12:04 PM
From Harper's Weekly:
In parts of Texas hit by Hurricane Ike, an estimated 20,000 cows and horses roamed free. Four thousand cows had been found dead, and officials thought that many more would never be found. "They're being eaten," said Texas AgriLife Extension Service spokeswoman Kathleen Phillips, "by alligators."
Now that'd be an interesting cowboy movie!

Gotta try this trick 6:00 AM
Opening ai files without Adobe Illustrator
But what about eps files?
How I make halftones:
I take my graphic and run it through Rasterbator to make a halftone PDF. Then I take that PDF and open it in GIMP and save it as a png. Now I've got a halftone that I can put in my b&w zine. Because the world isn't black and white. But the halftones for my zine need to be.

Three frames at a time 6:00 AM
In the last century I spent a good chunk of money on an animation peg bar and pre-punched paper for that peg bar and I made a light box out of scrap wood that I never sanded or sealed and was a constant source of splinters and scrapes. I tried to animate. I wanted to draw animated cartoons. I ended up with a pile of numbered drawings and no way to put them on film. I thought I could some how put them on video but soon realized that home video cameras don't do one frame at a time. I went through about 2 reams of 8 and a half by 11 inch 20 pound recycled papers worth of trial and error and learning. I have no idea where those pages are today. The light box was abandoned in Mpls. I still have the peg bar.

Blip Tv ain't working for some reason... 10:54 AM
Pick a Peck of Murder from tohoscope on Vimeo.
This was a spontaneous animation. Yeah, I know it sounds unlikely. But it was pretty much random. I really didn't know where I was going until I got there.

Monday Skull 6:00 AM
Having trouble with the swf exported by Pencil. I'll try to rebuild the files with MonkeyJam tonight and edit them with Vegas. I will make this work. I WILL!
Gonna try to use MOHO again for some lip synching at some point, too.

squiggle 5:02 AM
A while back I was looking around for a portable scanner to scan the stuff I doodle on small pieces of paper. Found something called IRIScan that looks like what I was looking for. Small, runs on a USB, plug and play on your laptop. Of course it's like $150 and I'd like to pay about half that price. I guess I'll wait a while and see if the prices go down.
Back in the studio, I wanted to do some animation last night but I was sick and ended up just going to bed when I got home from work. So now I feel like I've got a crapload of work to catch up on.

Well, crap 12:23 PM
For some reason I don't feel like I accomplished a damn thing this Labor Day weekend. And this after getting all my laundry done and putting together five DVD compilations for the OtakuHELL show on Sunday night. What the hell is wrong with me?
And now it seems imageshack won't let me upload anymore SWF.
