24 hour zine thing 11:19 AM
Make a zine in 24 hours? Isn't that how it's always done? Burn a night at Kinkos with your friends, etc...

The EGG and concerns 2:07 PM
Working on the EGG again, now that A-Kon is over.
And I'm stumped.
The sketches I've done don't really work with the story. And the story's tone. While still being, well, something you'd want to read.
I was thinking of some sort of Seussian types to populate the story. But that didn't seem right. I couldn't really think of a way to work it in a way that felt right. Which brings me back to what would feel right.
Okay. It came from a dream I had. So, do I want to evoke a dream? No. Well, maybe?
What was it in Monsta that made it work for me? There's a whimsy to it. I suppose I'm using that word wrong. But that's where I think I need to go with the EGG. What I did with Monsta is how I need to approach EGG.
Now if I can only figure out how I arrived at Monsta.

Kind of Screwed - Waxy.org 12:20 PM
Kind of Screwed - Waxy.org: "In practice, none of this matters. If you're borrowing inspiration from any copyrighted material, even if it seems clear to you that your use is transformational, you're in danger. If your use is commercial and/or potentially objectionable, seek permission (though there's no guarantee it'll be granted) or be prepared to defend yourself in court.
Anyone can file a lawsuit and the costs of defending yourself against a claim are high, regardless of how strong your case is. Combined with vague standards, the result is a chilling effect for every independent artist hoping to build upon or reference copyrighted works."

Did my youth sound like this?
Listening to the Police on some internet radio player, and I think it's all changed. The Police never do shows like Urgh! A Music War these days. It looks so alien to look back at it with these eyes.
Get your indy movie distributed? THIS has possibilities.

Hand-Crafted Voices With ‘Futurama’ Actor Billy West MTV Geek 12:38 PM
Hand-Crafted Voices With ‘Futurama’ Actor Billy West MTV Geek: "I try to encourage those kinds of things. I’ve spoken to a lot of people that have this passion for wanting to do voiceover work. You know I don’t want to tell them, “Yeah, you gotta somehow take heart that you may never ever end up in a big budget animation movie.” Because it’s an automatic, [animators] will just start drawing characters that look like the people that they’re hoping to get to be in the movie.
It’s almost like a rigged fight: they know exactly what the person’s going to sound like and what they’re going to look like. They’re basing the character on that rather than this character who comes out of the blue that somebody has to interpret. I don’t think you’re interpreting anything when you’re doing your own voice for everything."

Tokyo Information Net | Japan Anime | JAPAN ANIME NEWS | Interview of Anime "Kuruneko" Director Akitaro Daichi 9:35 AM
Tokyo Information Net | Japan Anime | JAPAN ANIME NEWS | Interview of Anime "Kuruneko" Director Akitaro Daichi: "The camera keeps in line with kitten's movement. It follows the kitten and moves together with it at the same pace. It is like an introduction implying that 'here begins the story of kitten. Let's walk together with it'. The audiences can enter the anime world easily due to this kind of opening. It seems that few anime works placed such serious emphasis on the opening before. Seiji Kameda composed the theme song and Seiyu Nozomi Sasaki wrote the lyrics. Nozomi Sasaki is assimilated into the kitten world 'Laugh'. She also sang the demo song. At that time she went all the way to the studio which has kitten, and did the recording while playing with kitten. She even modified parts of the lyrics when she played with the kitten. So we can say that this theme song is tailored to kitten world (Laugh)."

VeejayHQ | veejay – a realtime video sequencer and effects processor 9:49 PM
VeejayHQ | veejay – a realtime video sequencer and effects processor: "Veejay is a visual instrument
and realtime video sampler
With veejay, you can play the video like you would play a piano
While playing, you can record the resulting video directly to disk (video sampling), all effects are realtime and optimized for use on modern processors, Veejay likes the sound of your video’s as much as their images: sound is kept in sync ( pitched when needed – trickplay) and delivered to JACK for possible further processing.

Music to Chase the Dragon By 9:47 AM
Back before I had access to a VCR I used to tape movies and TV shows on a portable 3M tape recorder. I placed the little microphone by the TV speaker and pressed both play and record at the same time and filled up a cassette tape of lo-fi mono goodness. Later I played back the cassette over and over, my way of enjoying the movies without being able to watch the movies "on demand." I quickly noticed that Movies had a richer sound then TV shows and sitcoms. This was my introduction to sound design.
Which is probably why I'm enjoying this Creative Commons Netlabel project so much.
Ergo Phizmiz has taken Albert Zugsmith's "Confessions of an Opium Eater" and edited and mastered Albert Glasser's film score, along with the movie's sound design and some choice Vincent Price monologues. That's the brilliance of this Chinstrap Music project. Going through the soundscape of public domain films and finding some great movie music. What a great idea.

Feeling kinda sketchy itchy. Got some ideas knocking around in there. Something is there. Almost.
Not grocking it so far. It's there. Almost there.
