"where the line is drawn"

Cinema Eye posted this today:

Help Wanted

Flat Black Films is seeking fine artists and illustrators to do animation on the Richard Linklater feature A Scanner Darkly. Applicants need to be highly skilled in line drawing, particularly of the human face. Whereas our previous feature, Waking Life, aspired to a painting aesthetic, A Scanner Darkly aims to look more like a finely detailed, well-drawn comic book or graphic novel. Experience with computer animation such as Flash is a plus but not required. If you are willing to work as a local hire in Austin, please send portfolios or examples of artwork to art@flatblackfilms.com or:

I think I need to make a trip to Austin....

Kikaida Vol. 9

Kikaida Vol. 9 finally showed up today. Looks very cool, too. I'll post some screengrabs in the future. I've especially looking forward to watching Super Android Kikaida: Comin' at Ya! (1973) IN 3-D!

Now I just have to wait for the new Kamen Rider V3 DVDs to be released.

Roadie

Bought a 4 channel mixer and a clip-on mic for the OtakuHELL Commentary Track Recording Sessions. Went to test out the clip-on mic with the iPod mini and found that the iPodLinux audio recording program doesn't work with the 4gig model. Dammit all to hell.

So, now I need to either convince Ed to let me use his 20gig iPod OR find someother way to record. Like maybe a really really long cable from the front room to the RenderFARM...

New tricks and other kicks

Looks like I'll be spending alittle time working out the kinks for the new animehell.org site. I know nothing about PHP, but somehow I'm trying to set up a bittorrent tracker with a MySQL database. I don't even know what I just said...

I shouldn't complain. After all, I brought this on myself. Before 2000, before moving to Texas, I didn't know crap about html or CSS. Once I took over handling and coding cheapdisposable.com from Bruce I was instantly in over my head. Bruce handed me the HTML book that he learned from and I read it and eventully figured out what I was doing. Of course I had help from Windows Frontpage and other resources like .net and Computer Arts and Web Monkey. And somewhere in there I even started screwing around with CSS.

PHP is just another part I'll just have to blunder through...

Subversive Puppet Fun

I borrowed GREG THE BUNNY from Clarine on Sunday and I watched it over the last few nights. It's a fun little show. I'm not sure why I didn't watch it on broadcast.

No, actually I know why I didn't watch the original broadcasts. The commercials full of farting, mooning, drunk puppets turned me off. Seemed like cheap laffs. Luckily for us, the show rises above that and delivers genuinely funny material. Worth checking out if you think crippled/mentally handicapped puppets are funny. Posted by Hello

We all thought APEX DVD Players where the brand to buy. Those APEX's were cheap and they played our homebrewed VCDs and SVCDs. But then we bought an APEX that didn't wanna play VCDs or SVCDs. And then the APEX players started frying on us, one by one, until they were all just a stack of bad tech. On the other hand, our Yamakawa DVD Players continue to run, and they'll play almost any disk we throw into it. DVDR/RW +/-, SVCD, VCD, CD,etc... Posted by Hello

I finally got the MONKEY boxset from Amazon UK over the weekend. I'd order this back on October 11th last year. First it was out of stock, then when it was finally back in stock I kept checking back to see if it had shipped. After a few weeks of that I got pissed off and sent an e-mail to Amazon UK asking, "What's the sticking point?" A day or so later I got notice that the MONKEY boxset had shipped...from Amazon DE! WTF?

I've leeched the first 10 episodes of BECK and I can't tell you how much I'm digging it. No aliens or elves or stinking giant robots or exagerated speedlines. It's got class and it's all grown up... Posted by Hello

Cartoon Condoms in the New World Order

Jerry Beck sez:"The United Nations has announced the release this week of The Three Amigos, a series of 20 short, professionally produced animated Public Service Announcements designed to encourage the use of condoms to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the world. The three animated condom characters are named - get this - Shaft, Stretch and Dick." Posted by Hello

Crown me

The temporary crown that Dr. K put in my head on monday isn't hurt so much as it's irritating the gums around it. But it seems to be getting better and better everyday. Now I'm not really looking forward to the 26th where I'll have to go through all the drilling and filling all over again...

I go back in a couple of weeks for the crown. I feel so lucky...

Minnesota Law Makers have Sensativity Training

AP Nation | IndyStar.com: "Jan 7, 7:52 AM EST
Bipartisan workshop aims to end gridlock

By PATRICK CONDON
Associated Press Writer

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota legislators, plagued by enough drama and disagreement for a season's worth of plot lines on a reality TV series, decided they needed group therapy. About 75 senators and representatives voluntarily attended a workshop, 'Beyond Bickering and Gridlock,' that hoped to answer a question that plagues state lawmakers across the country and members of Congress alike: 'Can't we all just get along?'"

Root Canaling

Had my first root canal done yesterday. And it was alot like that Bill Cosby comedy routine. It was quick, thank god. They had me in and out in about an hour. And I made a $400 down payment on the new hole in my head, too. A big ol' dent in the credit card.

My big mistake was not eating before the oral surgery. When I got home I wanted to eat, but I was afraid I was gonna bite my tongue. I couldn't feel the right side of my face until about mid-afternoon. Which was a big relief to me. The whole deaden-nerve thing was giving me wierd signals and disorienting me.

About 2am the pain woke me up...
